Parchis 2D — Official Rules
Parchis 2D is a classic race board game for 2–4 players, designed for local play with friends and family.
These rules are based on traditional Spanish Parchis / Parcheesi gameplay.
1. Objective
Be the first player to move all four pieces from your Start area, around the board, and into your Home.
2. Number of Players
- 2, 3, or 4 players
- Each player controls one color
5. Dice and Turns
On your turn:
- Roll both dice.
- You may:
- Move one piece using the total of both dice, or
- Move two different pieces, one per die (if legal).
- If at least one legal move exists, you must make a move.
6. Leaving Start
- A piece must leave Start only if you roll a 5 or both dice combined add up to 5. Ex: 2 + 3, 4 + 1, etc.
- If you roll a 5 there is an enemy blocade in your Start, you cannot Start.
7. Rolling Doubles
- Rolling doubles grants an extra turn
- If doubles are rolled three times in a row:
- The most advanced piece is sent back to Start
- The turn ends immediately
8. Movement Rules
- Pieces move counter-clockwise
- Pieces must land exactly on Home (no overshooting)
- Pieces may not pass through:
- If no legal move exists, the turn is skipped
9. Safe Tiles
Safe tiles are special squares where pieces cannot be captured.
Safe Tile Rules:
- Pieces on safe tiles cannot be captured
- Two pieces of different colors may share the same safe tile
- Sharing a safe tile with different colors:
- ✅ Is allowed
- ❌ Does not form a blockade
- If you have a piece on an enemy Start tile, your piece can be captured if the enemy starts 2 pieces.
10. Blockades
A blockade is formed when:
- Two pieces of the same color occupy the same tile
Blockade Rules:
- No piece may pass through a blockade (including the owner’s)
- Blockades may exist on:
- Regular tiles
- Safe tiles (same color only)
- A blockade must be broken when rolling a double.
❗ Two pieces of different colors never form a blockade, even on safe tiles.
11. Capturing Pieces
A capture occurs when:
- A piece lands on a tile occupied by one opponent piece
- The tile is not a safe tile
Capture Effects:
- The captured piece is returned to its Start
- The capturing player earns a bonus move of 20 spaces
12. Bonus Moves
Bonus movement is awarded for:
- Capturing a piece → Move 20 spaces
- Moving a piece into Home → Move 10 spaces
Bonus rules:
- Bonus moves are forfeited if no legal move exists
13. Home Path and Home
- Each player has a color-specific Home path
- Only that player’s pieces may enter it
- Pieces must land exactly on Home
Once a piece reaches Home:
- It is removed from play
- It cannot be captured or moved again
14. No Legal Moves
If:
- All moves are blocked by blockades
- Moves would overshoot Home
- No pieces can leave Start
Then:
15. Winning the Game
- The first player to move all four pieces into Home wins.
- Optionally, play may continue to determine remaining placements.
17. Rule Clarifications Summary
- ✅ Two different colors may share a safe tile
- ❌ Different colors do NOT form blockades
- ❌ Captures cannot occur on safe tiles
- ❌ Blockades cannot be passed
